Last Tuesday (11th), the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) announced, at a press conference held at the BNDES headquarters, the grant of USD 800,000 (approximately BRL 4.2 million) for the creation of the Museum of the Amazons. The project will have technical support from BNDES and will be implemented by IDG together with the Government of Pará, CAF, and the Emilio Goeldi Museum of Pará, which will also work on coordination with research centers and scientific production in the Pan-Amazon region.

CAF's resources will be allocated to the implementation of the executive projects necessary for the construction of the museum, based on technical quality and sustainability. The international cooperation includes programs for research, innovation, technological development, and local and ancestral traditional knowledge. Additionally, a museological plan and training programs for teachers, educators, and researchers are planned, along with collaborative networks among key stakeholders, promoting the exchange of experiences and educational and scientific-cultural practices related to the Amazon.

Amazonizing the World

The construction of the museographic and expographic content will be in partnership with the Emilio Goeldi Museum of Pará, which will also coordinate with research centers and scientific production in the Pan-Amazon region. The proposed concept is that of an interactive space to share and apply scientific knowledge, innovation, technological development, and traditional knowledge, committed to sustainability, biodiversity, and cultural plurality.

The museum will encompass the perspective of the peoples of the Amazon, including Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela, across four thematic axes: Millennial Amazon, Secular Amazon, Degraded Amazon, and Possible Amazons.

As a legacy of COP 30, the Museum of the Amazons will be implemented in Warehouse 4A of Porto Futuro II, in Belém do Pará, with inauguration scheduled for October 2025.
